A movie poster contains a portrait of the main characters, framed in such a way as to represent the type of movie being advertised. Also present, usually at the bottom, is the title of the movie, the actors playing in addition to other information about the production. Movie posters were never intended to be distributed to the general public, which makes them less abundant and more difficult to obtain. As a result original movie posters are especially valuable and attractive for savvy collectors. Furthermore, movie posters are produced only when the movie is to be released. A movie poster that has been produced after a film has been released is in many cases a reprint.

Movie posters of many varieties are available on the internet. Poster websites have a variety of movie posters available for sale at reasonable prices. It is unlikely, though, that they will ever increase much in value, since they were mass produced for the general public. Reprinted movie posters are usually ranging in size from 22”x34” up to the original poster size of 27x41 inches.

Not only does the number of posters available dwindle over time, but they also provoke a sense of nostalgia for the time when that movie was produced. Stills and digital poster reprints can be added to people’s personal web pages. This is a way to spread the word about who likes what movie, thus denoting which movies are popular and worth watching. Movie memorabilia can also provide a way for people to express themselves, since what movies a person likes can be indicative of their character.
