Poster frames are usually simple and easy to assemble. They are often a benign color, such as black or silver, providing a means to display the poster rather than contributing to the design itself. Poster frames are often made of metal, e.g. aluminum, but can also be made of wood or plastic. The type of frame depends on how much one wants to spend in addition to the type of poster being displayed. A display at an upscale location might call for a custom wooden frame, while a plastic frame would suffice for a more modest display. The backing of the poster is made of a solid material, comprised of foamcore, corrugated cardboard or hardboard backing. While posters are usually slid over the backing, the poster can also be permanently attached to the backing by a professional. The front of the poster is usually covered with an acrylic plastic sheet. The plastic can be designed to provide UV protection for the poster.

Poster frames can also be made as a stand-alone display. This is especially useful if one wishes to place a poster in the middle of a room where the viewer is not necessarily next to a wall. The frame can be an easel or framed on a display stand. The display stand can be a simple pedestal or a sophisticated multimedia display.

Movie Poster Frames

Movie posters are created to promote an upcoming movie, so their frames are designed to attract the viewer’s attention directly to the poster. Movie poster frames are usually 27x40 inches, since those are the dimensions of the original movie poster. Movie posters can be displayed with a simple black frame, or a more enhanced frame to simulate how the poster would look at a cinema.

Lighting is a common feature when displaying a movie poster. Light helps the poster stand out as a focal point to somebody passing by. Frames can include backlighting simulating the theater-type speckled lighting or more original styles, such as neon lighting. A lightbox can also be used as a frame , casting light directly onto the movie poster.

24 X 36 Poster Frame

Many posters are printed in the dimensions of 24 in. x 36 in.. Not surprisingly, poster frames of this dimension are easy to find without having to have them custom made. They can be inexpensive, with a plastic slide-on frame, corrugated cardboard backing and plastic cover. It is also possible to use a more expensive frame, such as a metal or wooden frame, and professionally framed.
